Medicare Enrollment

In order to sign up for Medicare, you will need to contact Social Security. You can either:

  • Sign up for Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Part B (Medical Insurance) - OR -

  • Apply to get benefits from Social Security (or the Railroad Retirement Board). You’ll get Part A automatically once you start receiving benefits and you’ll choose if you want to also enroll in Part B.

You can only sign up for Part B at certain times. If you don’t sign up for Part B when you turn 65, you might have to wait to sign up and pay a monthly late enrollment penalty.
